Green Glory for Green Apple Winner

green-appleWe are extremely pleased to announce that we were double winners of Green Apple Environment Awards in the national campaign to find Britain’s greenest companies, councils and communities.

Our very own Ray Khan, Director of Quality and Environmental Standards, attended the glittering presentation ceremony held in the House of Commons on November 11, 2013. We competed against more than 500 other nominees and were presented by Miss Green World with the awards for our Carbon Footprint Reduction and Low Carbon Rooflight programmes.

These awards add to the growing collection which we are extremely proud of. We have now won 5 Green Apples, 3 Green Heroes and earlier this year, we were rewarded with the Green Ambassador Award. The Green Ambassador Award is given to companies that encourage others to improve upon their environmental performance, in our case this is by providing best practice and our endeavours to reduce the carbon footprint of our Low Carbon Rooflight compared to traditional GRP rooflights. When this is teamed with our Insulator honeycomb panel which previously won a Green Apple it provides a rooflight that is not only low in embodied energy it will also save energy for the building occupier by improving the thermal performance of the rooflight and increasing the light levels in the building.

As a result of our success we have been invited to have our winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow our examples and learn from our experiences.

We have also been considered to represent Great Britain in the European Business Awards for the Environment.

The Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and have become established as the country’s major recognition for environmental endeavour among companies, councils, communities and countries.  The awards are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising and promoting environmental best practice.

Judges for the Green Apple Awards are drawn from the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution for Wastes Management and other independent bodies.
