Hambleside Danelaw recently worked alongside Chelmsford based roofing contractor Geo Roof to supply Zenon Arc rooflights to a new DPD facility in Crawley, West Sussex.
The 63,798 ft² distribution centre is located on the Manor Royal Industrial Estate and is part of a multi-million pound investment by the express delivery company. With DPD’s mission to be the leader in sustainable delivery, this development has a BREEAM rating of Excellent alongside an enviable EPC ‘A’ rating.
Leicestershire contractor, TanRo were the main contractor for the development. Their collaborative approach with clients makes them a trusted partner to provide innovative solutions tailored to their unique needs.
The roof construction featured a Tata structural deck and a Fatra mechanically fastened single ply roof system. With 75% of the roof space used for a green roof and a provision for 25% coverage of PV, Hambleside Danelaw’s versatile Zenon Arc barrel vault rooflight complemented the roof design, enabling the building to receive all the recognised economic, environmental, health and well-being benefits of using natural daylight. The rooflight assembly specified by PRC Architecture consisted of an independent non-fragile liner to suit Tata D32/1000. A composite, barrel vault Zenon Arc 1000 with a Zenon Evolution LC1 weather sheet was then installed on upstands with each run enclosed with insulated end caps. The thermal performance of the assembly is an impressive 1.5W/m²K, easily exceeding the regulatory requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations. The use of Zenon Evolution product, which is reinforced with a woven continuous glass filament, provides the assembly with strong non-fragility performance and 30-year service life guarantee.

This project highlights the versatility of Zenon Arc, which can be used on flat, low pitched, curved, standing seam, and secret fix roof designs. With two opening widths available of 1000mm and 1200mm, it is easily suited to many of the current envelope systems. Supplied in module lengths of around 2500mm subject to exact project requirements, it can achieve long run lengths, particularly useful for curved ridge applications.
The combination of Zenon Arc GRP rooflights, green roof systems and photovoltaic panels can work together in harmony, creating a truly sustainable option providing the owner and end user with the many benefits of an energy efficient building.
Gavin Harriman, Director of Geo Roof quoted “Zenon Arc is a great, versatile product with simple and straightforward installation. Having successfully used the product on previous projects, we knew it was a fantastic choice.
